Training

In addition to changing the environment and management, training is extremely useful tool for all animals. Training provides much-needed mental stimulation to pets and helps them better communicate with their owners. Not all behavior plans will include training, but training is highly recommended for all animals regardless of species, age, or behavior status.

We use positive reinforcement training at Two Tails Behavior Consultations. Positive reinforcement is rewarding "good" (desirable) behavior by giving pets highly desirable items such as food, praise, and toys. It is a scientifically supported method of training showing much more improvement in behavior than other methods of training. We do not use aversive techniques that may cause fear or pain in pets. For those clients interested in the background and effectiveness of positive reinforcement, we will gladly discuss during your consultation.

When developing a behavior plan for your pet, we will utilize a variety of different behaviors to help you and your pet communicate better. Foundation behaviors such as eye contact, hand targets, and mat work can be very useful, as well as "obedience" behaviors of sit, down, and stay.

And YES! Any animal can be trained...even cats.
